Restauration is in its final phase (decks, detailing etc) and will be available for rent from fall 2010.
Located in beautiful Béarn, Aquitaine, in the Pyrenées, this 1768 barn is in its final stage of completion and has been carefully converted into a four level modern but yet traditional home.
By combining both our styles and preferences, we believe we are creating a vibrant and comfortable house with the most unexpected and funky details and solutions.
In times past, the animals were kept downstairs or the ground level. During the restauration we also discovered that part of the downstairs had been used as a "fromagerie", a place where cheese is stored and cultivated.
Family members lived upstairs, in the present kitchen and dining area, and slept in a crude unfinished attic.
The attic, which also was used for storing hay and grains, is now transformed into two bedrooms, baths and a small lounge.
The downstairs, formerly a cow residence, is being re-fitted into a comfortable, spacious (35 m2) living area featuring welcoming furnishings and a 42'' TV and DVD.
Double french doors on the west side open to a large modern wood terrace, partly shaded by a mature fig tree.
The colors are inspired by the Scandinavian light (Miriam being Swedish) and the furniture will be modern, stylish but comfortable.
Lighting is crucial in order to create a great ambiance. We particularily work with the lighting in the kitchen, as a beautiful and a well-lit kitchen is the most welcoming place - and also functional! - in the whole house.
During summer of 2009 we will start renting out this house at a very low rate in order to "test" it properly. Please email for rates and availability.
